Case Study 1Hello Technology

Hello Parking Screenshot

Background

Hello Technology Pte Ltd specializes in providing robust scalable mass communications solutions for large scale real-time communication and mobilization. Survey have shown that the per capita car ownership rate in Singapore is 12 cars per 100 people. Singaporeans love to drive but what happens when they run out of parking coupon? In partnership with their team, I was tasked to design and engineer an intuitive UI for an online parking coupon purchasing system.

Insights

A driver will have to go through the hassle of purchasing from the nearest convenient store when he/she run out of coupons. A system such as this would save them the inconvenience that results in lost of precious time and effort. Such a system is yet to be available in Singapore, hence, the market for such a service remains largely untapped. However, with this solution, the challenge is in convincing drivers to switch from their old ways of buying coupons and transit to purchasing them online.

Work

It is important that right from its launch, such a system has to be done right. An intuitive UI is a critical part of the strategy to this new transition. Upon landing on the homepage, drivers are prompted to purchase the coupon of their choice. The top fold of the page focuses only on coupon purchasing with no other visual noise. The bottom half informs the driver of the current road condition. To allow them to use the system on the go, a more streamline version was also developed for mobile devices.

Case Study 2Hiitch

Hiitch Screenshot

Background

Hiitch is an online social networking service or platform, that focuses on building and reflecting social relations among people, who, for example, share common interests and/or activities. Hiitch consists of a representation of each user (a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. Users on Hiitch can interact over the Internet via e-mail and instant messaging securely. Hiitch allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks and communities.

Insights

Online social networks are common but many existing solutions cannot customize and control the way different network of relationships interact with each other. Hiitch was developed to solve this problem. Hiitch boast of features that are safe, open and customizable. Hiitch is meant to be used on a daily basis by tons of people as they interact with each other. The user experience on such a system becomes a key factor in attracting and retaining users. The UI has to be highly interactive, smart, beautiful and easy to use.

Work

We set out to do some research and spent time observing how users interact with each other online. Hiitch should be automated, non-intrusive to the daily activities of the user but still remain informative. Therefore, we decided to pursue the concept of a desktop application. The design approach was to keep it simple and easy to use while allowing the UI to evolve over time. Bright colors and highly visual interface are used to engage the users. Hiitch won us an award in the Singtel Innovation Challenge.

Case Study 3YourAM

YourAM Screenshot

Background

YourAM is an automated smart appointment scheduling system. YourAM is a complete solution to sharing, managing and analyzing an entire organization's business appointments in real time. It is a web based application build to automatically organize and manage business appointments in real time via the web and SMS. It is designed specially to handle appointments for groups of people such as service based businesses and busy individuals. On top of automating appointments, it also provides appointment analytics that allows businesses to figure out important information and trends. I am proud to be part of the team that designed and engineered the UI.

Insights

YourAM provides a single or unified appointment management interface for the entire organization. Unlike the traditional calendar model of management our application is designed to be able to scale in order to manage groups of people. Many existing solutions even though good, has two main problems: I. Designing a good interface that could scale to manage groups of busy people. II. Required manual scheduling and approval which is slow and limited by human factors such as working hours, holidays, leave, moods and etc. In any revolutionary product, there will be a perspective shift in the way things are done now. YourAM is that new shift.

Work

Before the actual development, I spent time prototyping and brainstorming how an effective appointment tracking interface should look like. Most conventional appointment manager for businesses spots the same "calendar look" and the interface immediately becomes a cluttered mess when they are filled with appointments. YourAM is to adopt a different design concept by reducing screen clutter with a cleaner and more innovative way of presenting appointment data. The UI is highly interactive with smarter algorithms to sort appointments automatically and in real-time. YourAM was launched with good reviews and feedback from our users.

LittleLives Screenshot

Background

Singapore's leading property portal. PropertyGuru.com.sg is used by over 4.5 million consumers who view over 50 million pages. It works closely with prominent real estate developers in Singapore and overseas, over 20,000 housing agents, and home-related firms to develop innovative products for local property seekers. Due to my past experience with analytics products, I was tasked to design and develop an analytics tool for the local property market.

Insights

Property is the most expensive item that a Singaporean will purchase in their life time. As a result, information on property and online exposure for property agents is a thriving business. Building a comprehensive analytics report that can give both home buyers and agents up to date property figures, as well as, historical transaction records of their property can help them make more informed decisions on whether to buy or sell their property.

Work

We conducted research on our users and held discussions with the stakeholders involved. The decision was to implement analytics report on tablet devices with a clean UI. With millions of users and tons of information, managing visual data and contents is critical and challenging. The analytics report was developed with "Sencha Touch" to allow the contents to be delievered to low bandwidth devices with the greatest flexibility and optimization.

Education is important to everyone especially children. Children does not only desire to connect with others but how they interact with others also often determine their learning experience. At LittleLives, we build UI that help them better interact and learn from both teachers and fellow students. In our development process, we worked with teachers, as well as, private educators to learn more about a child's behavior and psychology.

Work

It is often difficult for us to step out of our adult point of view and really immerse ourselves in a child’s world in terms of content and functionality. As such, understanding children behavior becomes an integral part in developing a UI that meets their needs. LittleLives approach is to design and build highly visual interfaces that revolves around gamification to pique their interest to explore and learn.
